At Modern Wellness we use Frequency Specific Electro-Acupuncture
What is Frequency Specific Electro-Acupuncture (FSEA)?
Frequency Specific Electro-Acupuncture is an advanced form of acupuncture that combines time-tested acupuncture techniques with targeted electrical stimulation. FSEA uses two types of currents—Milliamp (mA) and Microcurrent (μA)—delivered at specific frequencies to support the body’s natural healing processes.
This modern approach allows for more precise treatment, targeting the exact site of injury or discomfort through the use of acupuncture needles.
How Does FSEA Work?
Milliamp (mA) Currents
Research suggests that when mA electrical currents are applied to specific tissues, they may:
Promote increased local blood flow to support tissue recovery
Aid in the breakdown of scar tissue, encouraging new, functional tissue regeneration
Stimulate the release of the body’s natural pain-relieving chemicals, such as endorphins
Microcurrent (μA) Stimulation
Studies indicate that microcurrent stimulation at precise frequencies may help:
Boost cellular energy (ATP) by up to 500%
Enhance collagen and elastin production, which are essential for tissue strength and flexibility
Support tissue rejuvenation and improved function
When these targeted frequencies are applied through acupuncture needles—rather than surface pads or probes—the effects can be delivered more directly to the affected area.
Why Choose FSEA?
Precision Treatment: Needles allow direct delivery to the site of concern
Efficient Recovery: FSEA may reduce the number of sessions needed compared to traditional acupuncture
Comprehensive Support: Patients often report experiencing improved function and overall well-being
“With FSEA, my patients often need fewer sessions, experience better outcomes, and ultimately save money on their care.”

Dr. Steven E. Bennett, M.S.O.M., D.O.M., Dipl. O.M.
Dr. Steven Bennett is a licensed Doctor of Oriental Medicine and a professor of Oriental Medicine in New Mexico. He earned his Master of Science in Oriental Medicine from the International Institute of Chinese Medicine in 2004 and has been practicing in Albuquerque since 2005. His practice focuses on holistic approaches to wellness, including pain support and constitutional treatments using acupuncture, herbal medicine, and advanced electro-acupuncture techniques.
A Leader in Electro-Acupuncture (EA)
Dr. Bennett is known for his work in the field of Electro-Acupuncture (EA), which combines traditional acupuncture with gentle, targeted electrical stimulation. He began his EA training in 2006 under Dr. Darren Starwynn and has since developed treatment protocols that incorporate the latest technology in frequency-specific therapies.
His approach is rooted in classical Chinese medicine, enhanced by modern techniques. He is also trained in Chinese pulse diagnosis and develops customized herbal formulas based on each individual’s needs. Dr. Bennett has studied extensively with Dr. Jimmy Wei-Yen Chang, learning advanced diagnostic techniques such as Pulsynergy.
A Holistic Medical Background
Dr. Bennett began his medical path in 1986 as an Army medic, where he was awarded the Expert Field Medical Badge. After his military service, he pursued studies in Biology and Ethnobotany—fields that sparked his passion for plant medicine and Chinese herbology. In 1998, he completed an apprenticeship in Shiatsu massage therapy before earning his formal degree in Oriental Medicine.
Community Engagement & Teaching
Dr. Bennett is actively involved in the community, volunteering with programs that support veterans and underserved populations. He donates his time to the Veteran Stress Relief Clinic (in collaboration with the Sacred Spring Reiki Collective), helping veterans and their families explore integrative care approaches for stress-related conditions.
He has also worked with organizations such as:
Healthcare for the Homeless (Casa los Arboles residential recovery program)
Sandoval County Stars Program (supporting recovery for individuals with multiple DWI offenses)
As an educator at Southwest Acupuncture College in Santa Fe, Dr. Bennett teaches courses and supervises clinics in Electro-Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine, training future practitioners in both foundational and advanced practices.
